LATEST RELEASES

Feed-O-Matic 3.0.1

October 13th, 2008

Bugfix release. For major changes in v. 3.0, see its release notes (further down this page, or here).

  • Fixed a bug where clicking foods in the new Food Preferences panel wouldn’t show them as excluded/unchecked.
  • When a category is excluded/unchecked in said panel, the foods within it appear grayed out.

Disenchant Predictor 3.0

October 13th, 2008
  • Updated for compatibility with WoW Patch 3.0 and Wrath of the Lich King.
  • Tooltips for reagents now use an inline graphic to indicate which expansion’s items they disenchant from.
  • Includes preliminary data to support predicting disenchants for Wrath items:
    • We don’t yet have enough data to predict all Wrath disenchants. Disenchant Predictor will show details in the chat window if you disenchant something that doesn’t match its expectations — send them in so future releases can be more accurate!
    • In Wrath content, there’s no longer a correlation between items’ required level seen in-game and the internal item level that determines disenchant results. So, tooltips for Lesser/Greater Cosmic Essence and Small/Large Dream Shards can only say “disenchants from lower/higher level Wrath items”.
  • Removed the Auto Loot option, as the one built into WoW works for Disenchanting now.
  • Now uses the Interface Options panel for configuration.

FactionFriend 3.0

October 13th, 2008
  • Updated for compatibility with WoW Patch 3.0 and Wrath of the Lich King.
  • Redesigned the menu that appears upon right-clicking the reputation watch bar to handle the new three-level faction hierarchy in WoW 3.0:
    • Replaced faction status text with Armory-style icons.
    • By default, all factions are in submenus, grouped according to the new top-level headers in WoW 3.0 (Classic, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Other).
    • Since digging into submenus all the time isn’t so great, the 10 factions you’ve most recently watched or gained/lost reputation with are shown in the top level of the menu.
    • As before, you can hide factions from the menu by moving them to the Inactive group in the Reputation pane. If 35 or fewer factions remain active, the menu will switch to a simpler layout without submenus.
  • Added Burning Crusade factions & dungeons for the zone-based automatic reputation bar switch feature:
    • The outdoor Isle of Quel’Danas shows the Shattered Sun Offensive on the reputation bar.
    • All 5-man dungeons show the faction whose reputation is earned therein.
    • Karazhan and Hyjal Summit raids show their respective factions as well.
  • Updated Thorium Brotherhood turnin values to reflect changes in recent WoW patches.
  • Fixed a discrepancy with Sporeggar item turnin quantities.
  • Fixed an issue where collapsing headers in the reputation pane would interfere with our ability to auto-switch the reputation watch bar or display factions in the menu.
  • Updated French localization by Kehrsyn of Culte de la Rive Noire (EU).
  • Added basic locale support for Russian and Spanish based on Wowhead’s multilingual database. (That is, enough translations for all features to work the same as in English, but no localized UI text.)

Feed-O-Matic 3.0

October 13th, 2008
  • Updated for compatibility with WoW Patch 3.0 and Wrath of the Lich King.
  • Rebuilt FOM’s system for choosing foods to feed your pet:
    • Our database of valid pet foods now comes from the PeriodicTable library.
    • Priority order for choosing foods is based (in part) on PeriodicTable sets (conjured, basic, or bonus foods, etc.)
    • There’s now a Food Preferences sub-panel under GFW Feed-O-Matic in the Interface Options window.
      • In it, all valid pet foods your WoW client has seen are listed by category.
      • The order of categories and foods in the list reflects the priority order for choosing foods: those nearer the top of the list will be picked before those below.
      • Individual foods can be unchecked in the list to prevent FOM from feeding them to your pet.
      • Entire categories can also be unchecked, which will prevent FOM from using any food of that category (even ones you haven’t seen yet). By default, only the “Well Fed” foods are disabled, so be sure to visit the list if you want to exclude other foods.
      • The list can be filtered to show only relevant foods for your pet (or for a pet of about your level, if you don’t have a pet summoned at the moment) or only foods you’re currently carrying.
      • If a food can be cooked, the list shows information about each of the the Cooking recipe(s) that use it: whether you know the recipe, its difficulty (i.e. orange, yellow, green or gray in the Cooking window), and the food produced.
      • This list replaces the “avoid bonus foods” and “avoid cooking foods” options in previous releases.
  • The “keep bag space open” option from previous releases has been removed: given multiple stacks of the same food, FOM will now always consume the smaller stack first so as to free up bag space more quickly.
  • Fixed several issues which caused the “Avoid foods needed for quests” option to fail.
  • Added numerous random feeding emotes — thanks to Mania and the creative commenters at http://maniasarcania.com!
  • Locale issues:
    • The random text added to feeding emotes (e.g. “Yum!”, “Good boy!”, etc) is now localizable. See the FeedOMatic_Emotes.lua file for details. (Thanks Virshan for a few Spanish.)
    • Added Korean localization by Boddalhee of Deathwing (KR).
    • Added Spanish localization by Javier Melo.
    • Added basic locale support for Russian, and updated basic locale support for French and German, based on Wowhead’s multilingual database. (That is, enough translations for all features to work the same as in English, but no localized UI text.)
      • Translations are missing for the new and renamed beast families (in WoW 3.0 / WotLK), so the family-specific hungry sounds don’t currently work in locales other than English.

Levelator 3.0

October 13th, 2008
  • Updated for compatibility with WoW Patch 3.0 and Wrath of the Lich King.
  • Levels are no longer inserted with quest links in chat — click the link to see the level in the tooltip.
  • Fixed an error with addition of quest levels to tooltips.

Linkerator 3.0

October 13th, 2008
  • Updated for compatibility with WoW Patch 3.0 and Wrath of the Lich King.
  • It’s now possible to retrieve item links given a known item ID (using /link <number>) even if the item is not in your client’s local cache. Items unknown by the server will return no results.
  • Includes preliminary support for spell links — they’re now returned in /link search results but not for as-you-type linking. More spell, talent, quest, and achievement link features will follow in future releases.

Hunter’s Helper Discontinued

October 13th, 2008

WoW Patch 3.0 introduces a new system for Hunter pets — no longer does one need to search beasts all over the world to find new and upgraded abilities for one’s primary pets. Hunter’s Helper was designed primarily to fill that shortcoming… and with the old pet system laid to (a long overdue rest), HH is a solution without a problem.

So, Hunter’s Helper now joins Guildentipper and TrackMenu in the ranks of Fizzwidget Industries products made happily obsolete by improvements to World of Warcraft itself. Thanks to everyone who used it and provided feedback over the past three years!

Discontinued Addons

October 13th, 2008

The bad news: I have less and less time to spend on maintaining and supporting addons lately. Especially in the case of addons which require maintaining a large database of items or reacting to API compatibility changes in other addons, I no longer have the time available to keep up the quality of support I’d prefer to.

As such, AdSpace, Gemologist, and ReagentCost are now officially discontinued. Old versions can be downloaded from the preceding links, and may continue to work on WoW 3.0 (compatibility changes affecting those addons are few). Any other author is welcome to the code if they’d like to continue updating it or use it as the basis for new addons.

Looking for other addons to fill these functions? Mendeleev and Informant (part of the Auctioneer suite) handle most of the functions of AdSpace and Gemologist, and provide a wealth of other information on items besides. RecipeRadar doesn’t put recipe source info in tooltips, but provides other details for tracking down vendor recipes beyond anything AdSpace ever did. As for ReagentCost, several tradeskill-enhancement addons now provide its features: Manufac is a popular one.

Hunter’s Helper 2.4.3

June 20th, 2008
  • Availability (color) of abilities in the top part of the HH window should now follow more sensibly from that of individual ranks.
  • Uses a new, locale-independent way to keep track of spell names and icons — should result in proper behavior and fewer errors on WoW locales other than English. (Localizers need no longer provide translated spell names. Pet family names are still required for providing fully correct functionality, though.)
  • Thanks in part to the above, fixed an issue where Avoidance wouldn’t show the proper icon.
  • The menu of pet families is now alphabetically sorted for all languages.
  • Includes minimal localization (enough for proper functionality, no translated UI) for European and Latin American Spanish.
  • Includes new French localization by oXid FoX.
  • Fixed layering of the minimap button relative to other frames.
  • Compatible with Awbee’s BeastTraining addon; if it’s installed, it replaces the Beast Training window, and HH can be used for finding abilities but not for training them to your pet.
  • Rebuilt pet skills database from http://petopia.brashendeavors.net as of 2008/06/20.

Hunter’s Helper 2.4.2

May 5th, 2008
  • Fixed an issue where the Filter (availability) menu wouldn’t always work as expected.
  • Fixed an issue where the pet family menu would sometimes fail to actually show the selected family.
  • Fixed an issue where the HH UI could conflict with the Enchanting window, preventing it from being shown.
  • Fixed an issue where a beast with multiple learnable abilities would be listed multiple times in the minimap button tooltip.
  • Fixed some issues with positioning the minimap button.
  • Fixed some issues related to HH’s cache of known abilities becoming outdated.
  • Fixed an error that would occur when using the /hh reset command. All saved data is cleared and options reset to default when the command is used.
  • Dash now correctly shows as learnable by Raptors.
  • Updated German localization by Ghanur of EU-Alexstrasza.
  • Rebuilt pet skills database from http://petopia.brashendeavors.net as of 2008/05/05.
  • KNOWN ISSUE: Classification of abilities by availability doesn’t work as expected in some cases where availability of individual ranks is mixed (e.g. Growl 1 is tameable, Growl 2 is known by the hunter but not the pet, and Growl 3-8 are all well above the hunter’s level).

Levelator 2.4.1

April 11th, 2008
  • WoW Patch 2.4 added the ability to insert quest hyperlinks in chat, but the way this was implemented overrode Levelator’s ability to add levels when inserting quest names in chat. Levelator now makes sure a level tag gets inserted along with the new hyperlink.
  • Levelator also now adds a level tag to the tooltips spawned from quest hyperlinks. (Unfortunately, there’s not enough info attached to a hyperlink for us to also show a Group/Heroic/PvP/etc tag.)

Feed-O-Matic 2.4.1

April 11th, 2008
  • Fixed an issue where some checkboxes in the options UI weren’t having an effect.
  • Fixed an issue with the Save for Cooking setting not being applied properly.
  • Added several new foods from recent patches to the default list.

Hunter’s Helper 2.4

March 24th, 2008
  • Hunter’s Helper now has a GUI, bringing many new features:
    • You can now easily browse pet abilities and find out where to learn them. Choose an ability (and rank, if applicable) in the list and you’ll see which beasts you can tame to learn it, sorted according to where they can be found (with the zones closest to your current location listed first).
    • You can also browse/search by zone to see all the beasts with learnable abilities in a given area. (Zones are sorted based on proximity to your current location; i.e. how many other zones you must pass through to reach them.) Choose a beast and you’ll see which abilities can be learned by taming it.
    • In both modes, beasts and abilities show additional useful info when available: level, normal/rare/elite status, and diet for the former; required level, description, and training point cost for the latter.
    • Both modes also offer several ways to search or filter their data: by typing part of a zone, beast, or ability name; by beast family (e.g. Cat, Boar, Sporebat, etc.); or based on which abilities you already know (or can’t yet learn).
    • Show the new Hunter’s Helper panel by typing /huntershelper or /hh.
  • The new Hunter’s Helper UI also serves as an improved replacement for the Beast Training window:
    • Open it while you have a pet summoned and it’ll automatically filter to show only those abilities learnable by that pet type.
    • The list can be futher filtered based on which abilities your pet already has, which it can be trained with, and which it’s can’t learn yet.
    • Choose an ability and the highest rank trainable to your pet will be automatically selected (and unlike the standard Beast Training window, choosing a different rank or ability doesn’t require scrolling an extra-long list).
    • Displayed training point costs take into account the points refunded when training a higher rank of an ability your pet already knows, so it’s easier to see which abilities/ranks you can afford.
    • Since the new UI replaces the Beast Training window, you can also show it by “casting” Beast Training from your spellbook or action bar.
  • The new UI is separate from the main Hunter’s Helper addon and is only loaded when it needs to be shown. (Don’t like the new UI? Disable or delete the Hunter’s Helper UI addon and HH will keep working as it did before.)
  • There’s also a new minimap button (off by default; type /hh button to show/hide it):
    • Click it to show the full pet/ability browsing UI.
    • If you’re in a zone with beasts you can tame to learn new abilities, the button shows how many such beasts there are; mouse over it to see details in the tooltip.
  • Configuration controls are moved into a pane in the new Interface Options panel provided by the default UI.
  • Fixed an issue where taming or casting Beast Lore on a creature with learnable abilities would report that Hunter’s Helper didn’t know about them even if it did.
  • Updated German localization by “Zara”.
  • Slash command feedback text is now localizable. (Translators should look at the top of localization.lua for new keys.)
  • Rebuilt pet skills database from http://petopia.brashendeavors.net as of 2008/03/24.

ReagentCost 2.4

March 24th, 2008

Updated TOC to indicate compatibility with WoW Patch 2.4.

Linkerator 2.4

March 24th, 2008
  • Updated TOC to indicate compatibility with WoW Patch 2.4.
  • Processing of links seen at the Auction House is now done asynchronously; this avoids locking up the client for long periods of time if another addon requests all the AH listings at once.
