Linkerator: On Hold
Linkerator had already been “on life support” for some time, as it needs some major work to truly realize its functionality on recent versions of WoW. Sadly, I’ve not had time to put in even minor work on it lately, and don’t expect to for some time. And with the release of WoW Patch 3.3.5, it’s more seriously broken.
Sometime “soon” I’ll be releasing a version with slimmed-down functionality that works on the current WoW patch; and sometime further in the future I still plan to bring Linkerator back up to where I think it ought to be, but for now it at least temporarily joins the ranks of the discontinued addons. I was able to get rid of the errors by changing the word ChatFrameEditBox in lines 262, 335, 336 to ChatFrame1EditBox. YMMV.

Well.. I guess this is as good as time as any to offer feedback… I really like your addons. I’ve sworn by your name for years. Even for things I don’t use. Linkerator’s one that I’ve only more recently discovered the beauty of.
I’ll miss it.. and I hope to see it join the ranks again soon. I’ll miss it from the toolbox of superior gadgets and doodad’s you’ve shared. 😀

This was one of my absolute favorite addons, and I was truly sad to see it broken today. The ability to simply type in the names of things without looking them up in Atlas, etc was unparalleled in its convenience. I will check back often, hoping for an update.

Now, I may just be a tree huggin’ tauren, but seems like there’s a fairly simple bandaid for this little issue. I was actually lookin’ at the instructions for this little doodad and seems if you just update some wording it works just fine.
Change all instances of ChatFrameEditBox to ChatFrame1EditBox in the Linkerator.lua to get back some functionality.
Is it a perfect fix? I doubt it… to be honest I have a feeling it won’t work on anything but the General tab, or perhaps just all tabs attached to the original chat frame window where the General tab resides. But none the less, it’s workin’ for me for now, as much as is needed.

After replacing references to the old chatbox with the new chatbox, the last release of Linkerator seems to still be working ok for me. There are very few cases I’ve found where it won’t complete the item name I’m after.

I’m tuly sad about you putting Linkerator on hold. This addon REALLY makes life much easier in-game. I’m a huge fan of it and I hope you bring it around sooner than later. I’ll be eagerly expecting it.

PS: The only funcionality I missed on Linkerator and hope you can implement someday is the ability to link profession recipes, besides items themselves.

Noo 🙁 I’ve been using Linkerator for years and it’s one of the addons that really make my playing easier in more than one way. Hopefully it will get back on its feet rather sooner than “sometime later™”.

Aaw, I’m sad to see this one disappear. It was such a tiny powerful addon that did exactly what I needed; type-auto-completion and searching of itemlinks.
Is it the new editbox that must be hooked differently?

NOOO, this is definitely my favourite addon in game, and I’m really sad to see it broken. That said, I can understand that RL sometimes intrudes into our WoW experience. Hope things come good and look forward to an update soon.

Please pretty please put Linkerator back on the updated list.
It has followed me around for years and been a trusted gadget that I been using from time to time. I even would pay an small makaroni fee as encouragement to continue the good work.

I check at least weekly to see if there is any updated news on linkerator. Love your add-ons, especially this one! It is sorely missed, and there is nothing else out there that even comes close to the functionality this one had. Thanks for your time and efforts on all your add-ons!

Another vote for Linkerator.
I miss the /link command in particular. Even with the addon disabled I still find myself trying to /link items and get that wonderful yellow message that basically calls you a noob.
Please, if nothing else, someone find a way to get /link working?

Shame, this really helped when selling my bags on my banker, I hated having to link it every time. I sell 500+ bags a week so it seriously helps. And I usually watch DVD’s while selling so anything to automate the process is a plus!

Any chance we can get a binary response on this outstanding addon? I.E. is it dead or not? All due respect (and I have plenty for all your great work) but I’d just like to know if there’s any chance at all of this being continued. Not looking for a timeline, not looking for any promises, just an indication that its still on the burner. If not, that’s unfortunate, but it would be good to know. Thanks again for all your excellent work.

Linkerator isn’t dead yet, nor is it pining for the fjords. It needs major work before it’ll again be in a state where I’m happy with it… and I don’t have a whole lot of time available for such work these days. I can’t promise a timeframe, but it’ll be back… someday. In the meantime I’d recommend Telo’s LootLink — it’s not quite the same, but it’s better than nothing.

Many, many thanks for the rapid response, sir! Most appreciated and I’ll eagerly await the resurrection (love the binary, btw). Already using LL and will continue to do so, but as I’m sure you know, a working Linkerator will be a superior alternative. Again, thanks and best wishes.

Blast, I was afraid “soon” would turn out to be in Blizzard/Valve time. Hope the slim-version is still in the works.
